But I’m most proud of all the efforts from our internal team, all teachers and consultants that stay motivated and learn new things such as collaboration online and self-leadership.
At AW Academy we follow five methods when it comes to teaching and learning, five methods that we base our training on since we know they lay the foundation for efficient learning. The methods we use are Accelerated Learning, Action Learning, Peer to Peer, Growth Mindset and Lifelong Learning.
We stand behind our methods every day, but these last couple of weeks, changing to online training in just a few hours has proven our methods even more, since working according to them has made us adapt to the current situation in an efficient way while keeping our high quality! I’m so inspired by all teachers, consultants (that's what we call our students) and internal staff, let me tell you what I’ve experienced in our programs in both Sweden, Germany, Finland and Norway! As our Lead Teacher Philip Frank in Germany says:
"Modern digital tools like video conferencing and screen sharing solutions have improved greatly in recent years. Together with better internet connectivity it is now possible to experience much of our professional and social lives without physical contact. The current situation has put us to the test, and we have proven that with some adjustments and the right setting even our accelerated learning programs at AW Academy can continue."
Accelerated and Action learning
The pace in which we switched to online training was extreme, in just a few hours all programs were up and running! From AW Academy this was done by putting together a short guide with a few recommendations on tools and activities. That was it! Teachers and consultants started working with the new set up at home. And it worked! True Accelerated Learning!
Accelerated Learning is all about this, a combination of short theory and practice. It proves that you can’t prepare forever, you will only know how things work and learn if you try it out! In this case the short theory was the guidelines and then all got started.
The same goes for action learning which is all about learning by doing. From the first days of online training both teachers and consultants have become more comfortable with the technical tools and the ways of working online and from home. This shows the strength of “dare to try”, working with real life problems to solve is truly the way you learn!
Peer to Peer Learning
Another thing that truly has stood out these days is our method peer to peer. Social learning has great effect and the demand of social distance has not been an obstacle in social learning for our consultants whom are used to sharing their learning and help each other out. Except from being a fun and efficient way to learn, this approach has contributed to a positive online learning environment, making sure no one is left too far behind or feeling alone while working from home. Daily check-ins and check-outs, lots of group assignments and learning activities that makes a structured day has helped a lot!
Another thing that we see has had a great impact on learning in the online learning environment is our focus on a Growth Mindset. Growth Mindset is a foundation when faced with new challenges. If you have a growth mindset you embrace the challenges and persist when facing obstacles. You also give in more effort and learn from the mistakes on the way. At AW Academy we try to foster a Growth Mindset and try to give our students tools and tips to feed that mindset, and during these special times we see that our student and teachers really have it!
Lastly, we put a lot of focus in our programs on Lifelong Learning, meaning creating habits to gain learnability and understanding the fact that you not only learn “in the classroom” but in all situations. These days the students and teachers has taken extra responsibility in creating good habits from home, and especially they have been put to the test when it comes to learning in all situations. That’s impressive!
Hearing all the stories that we collect from all our programs, watching the fun videos and pictures that consultants post from their learning sessions and our teacher community check-in to share best practice with each other makes me so proud. Proud to have a great educational platform with methods that not only supports efficient learning but also learning trough life when the situation demands it. But I’m most proud of all the efforts from our internal team, all teachers and consultants that stay motivated and learn new things such as collaboration online and self-leadership.
So far, I can only state that the Covid-19 has challenged us, but by living as one learns we have faced the challenge and learned so much already. Reach out if you want to share or get some best practice on how we have worked!
